Its been a month and a half since I blogged/wrote a note on facebook
Yes it has indeed been a very long time since I have written an entry, I have been meaning to do this more often, but I guess I never really got around to it. Nothing all that amazing is really new in my life so I guess I never really felt the urge to write, but nonetheless I am back. I won another decent amount playing poker online, not sure who would consider cashin out $600 a small amount. Although I have really not had any success at all since then. I have pretty much been card dead. Not getting any hands. Over Thanksgiving break I went to Canterbury to try my luck there and did not see a single good hand and very few even playable hands over the course of the 4 or 5 hours that I was there I lost about 150 there, I guess it could have been much worse. I have been pretty much working 20-25 hours a week and going to classes. I have skipped fewer total classes this semester, not counting the day before thanksgiving, that I had skipped in probably every class last semester. And with less that 2 full weeks of classes before finals left I don't see that changing. Lets see the next part of my life is sports. Nothing really amazing has been going on in the world of sports from my point of view. The Vikings are pretty crappy, they have a good defense for once, but nothing on offense at all. Pretty miserable to watch acually. The Gopher basketball team, how can I put this nicely, they arent even the best basketball team in the state of minnesota, but they are the only division one team. They lost to Winona State which in their own right are a very good team, but they are in division two. They are #1 in Division 2, but still that is an embarassing game to lose. Who loses one of their warmup games? The girls soccer team here at UWEC did really well, I think it is the best finish in school history, making it to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tourney and lost to the eventual national champion. The game was much closer than the 2-0 score would indicate with one goal coming at the very end of the game and the first coming on a PK which the Wheaton announcers thought was unjust. Still they did a good job and although I highly doubt any of them are going to read this, I enjoyed watching them play and hope to watch some next year.
On another note I have been listening to a lot of new music. Other people, might have listened to these bands before, but I have been listening to them for the first time, well not neccessarily the bands for a first time, but their new music. I got some Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, they are a fun band to listen to. Kind of an original sound, with kind of a blues or jazz guitar style mixed with more up tempo drums and other assorted instruments. I read about the next band, Swan Lake, in a magazine, I think it was Rolling Stone, they were called one of the few indie rock bands that actually rock and I have to agree with that, although I havne't listened to that many indie rock bands I think that these guys do rock. What I like about them is that they have their own original sound, I guess I'm one of the few people who like to listen to original bands. If I wanted to heard a band that sounds a lot like another I would just prefer to listen to the original. I also got the new Barenaked Ladies album. It was definitely different, that the stuff that I had last listened to which was more than 5 years ago I think. There is one song on there that I really like though, overall it was ok, but nothing that amazing. The Ranconteurs which I had been meaning to get for quite some time, but never remembered. I like the sound another original sounds, not even that similar to the sound of the white stripes, but still fun to listen to. There was also a new Eric Clapton album, but I have not gotten around to actually listening to it. It got good reviews from what I have read though.
On to TV. I have of course been working practically every night, but luckily I have a tivo so that i won't miss all of my shows. I have a lot of shows that i like to watch too. I am definitely a huge fan of the new show Heroes. Its just suspenseful and interesting. A very intrigueing concept to say the least. I watch House, which is good like it has been for last few years. I also like/love all of the comedies on NBC's thursday lineup. My name is earl is funny, its not quite as good as the 2 shows that come right after it, but I watch it nonetheless. I am a big fan of the Office and also have been watchin some episodes from the original british series. The british series tackles sort of workplace issues in England so to me it is not as funny as its American counterpart, but still funny. Scrubs comes after that which of course i have written about many times, but I hope that this season which just started last week is as good as those in the past. After that there is 30 Rock which is also funny and fairly original, although the premise is a lot like studio 60 on the sunset strip, writing a sketch comedy show. I also record Conan on nights that I miss the beginning because I am at work. I am also very excited about the return of another good new show from its hiatus. Psych is a funny sort of detective show with a twist. They are fake psychic detectives. And also along with that Monk will be back which will give me something to watch on fridays. I guess it is time to wrap this up with my picks.
Song of the Day: Wind It Up---the Barenake Ladies, my favorite song from their previously mentioned new cd. Every should give this song a try.
Movie of the Day: Casino Royale, I was excited to go see this movie and was impressed by it immensley. For those who do not know this, my brothers and I own all 20 of the previous james bond movies. So I am kind of a bond geek along with all of my other geekiness. This movie was pretty much a prequel for the bond series. It set up the character that is james bond so well. It has set up why he is the way he is. I am actually excited to read the book that it came from and see how they changed it to take place in modern day. To put it bluntly, in this movie James Bond is a Badass. This movie is worth seeing whether you have seen all of the other Bond movies or none of them. You dont need to have seen the others if you enjoy movies in general.
It lived up to all of the hype in my mind.
Thats all for now, I will try to keep these much more frequent and with that much shorter than this monster.
